NCジャパンセンターでは，ニューヨーク在住の貼り絵画家，山田純子さんの作品21点による展覧会を４月１日から６月１３日まで開催します。日本の伝統文化や懐かしい風景を様々な種類の紙を用いて表現した，美しい作品をお楽しみください。
山田さんご本人をお招きしたレセプションは４月１２日（土）午後３時ー５時で、どなた様も無料です。　レセプションでは、山田さんご本人による、ワークショップ（２時３０分ごろ）、プレゼンテーション(３時３０分ごろ)を行う予定にしております。ワークショップ参加ご希望の方は、人数に限りがありますので、あらかじめNCジャパンセンターの長曽我部までご連絡いただけると大変助かります。電話：919-515-3450 　メール：reiko.chosokabe@ncsu.edu
                                                  

NC Japan Center will hold an art exhibit from April 1 through June 13th.This exhibit will showcase  21 pieces of  art work created by Ms. Junko Yamada, an artist residing in New York City.You will have an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful “Harie” collages depicting Japanese traditional culture and sceneries from sweet old Japan by using a variety of paper. A reception with Ms. Yamada will be held between 3pm and 5pm on Saturday, April 12th.Everyone is invited, free of charge. 

Reception: Sat. April 12 3-5pm (Free and Open the public)

Work shop: 2:30pm, Presentation:3:30pm

Exhibition Date: April 1 –June 13, 2014

(Open by appointment Monday – Friday 9am-5pm)

Junko Yamada Biography

By applying modern subject matter and vibrant colors to a traditional Japanese art form, Junko Yamada creates truly unique works of art on rice paper. Her collages compose with thousands of pieces of fine paper in the tradition of “Harie”, a style of art that dates back several centuries in Japan. 

Born in Kyoto, Japan, Junko grew up along the pacific coast outside of Kyoto where she was impressed and influenced by spectacular scenery. Her academic training includes the Art Institute of Boston in the late 1980’s and the Art League in Alexandria, Virginia throughout the 1990’s. 

Now having come full circle, her Japanese origin is reflected in her American training just as the natural beauty of the Japanese seashore is reflected in her choice of color and style.  Junko Yamada hopes that, like the ocean and mountains of her youth, her work instills a sense of tranquility and inner peace, a visual escape from everyday life.

Junko was selected as a final artist of 2010 National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C.

In 2011, Junko Yamada’s piece titled “Vegetable Garden” won the Gold Medal for Collage and Mix Media at the Salmagundi Gallery Exhibition in NYC.
